Driving Innovation for SAP HANA for Google Cloud Customers and Partners
SAP is the hallmark of a true enterprise application. And, with the introduction of SAP HANA, SAP brought the power of accessing data in real time with blistering performance, with scale, flexibility and versatility. Nearly every customer in every vertical market wants to focus on their business, and not on infrastructure. When coupled with Google Cloud that delivers a secure infrastructure with high availability, disaster recovery, and low latency network, SAP customers gain the ability of running the largest SAP-certified virtual machines (VMs) on the market.
Running a business critical application like SAP means ensuring data is fully protected and highly available. Traditional methods available to Google Cloud customers have focused on running classic on-prem backup software on the cloud. The challenge customers face with this approach is that it brought back the same challenges with managing infrastructure, which is what they wanted to get away from when they moved to Google Cloud’s platform.
At HYCU, we fundamentally believe there is a better way to protect, manage and recover data. Eliminating complexity and focusing on simplicity for customers and partners is what keeps us up at night. It’s with this focus that I’m particularly excited to announce our latest innovation for Google Cloud customers and partners.
Our team has worked hard with the Google Cloud team to bring 1-click simplicity to SAP HANA protection and recovery. With this addition, HYCU for Google Cloud is now able to deliver an integrated solution that delivers GCS’s SAP-certified Back int connect for SAP HANA. We are the first data protection solution provider to offer a Back int certified as a Service offering for Google Cloud SAP HANA customers.

Here are a few of the significant updates we have made.
Automated Discovery: Based on HYCU patented Application Awareness™ technology, users simply log-in, apply the credentials and HYCU automatically identifies the systems that are running SAP HANA that need to be protected. All the customer needs to do is select the policy and in 1-click HYCU takes care of the rest – including the constant upkeep of the Backint integration.
Zero Production Disruption: HYCU protects not just the SAP HANA database but the entire application stack. We protect the database and entire infrastructure using Google Snapshots and deliver the full lifecycle management. Because of the way we do the backup, there is no impact on the production system.
Information the way an SAP Admin prefers: Available directly from the SAP Cockpit, however, the data is synced and available via the HYCU management interface for the Cloud and backup admin.
Cloud Aware Dedupe: With most SAP HANA users running multi-TB databases with the standard deployment in the 8-10 TB range, SAP admins want to make sure they have an efficient way of backing up and storing backup data for the long term. They need a cost-efficient way which is where our cloud aware dedupe steps in. Traditional vendors use on-prem dedupe technology on the cloud, but that blows the cost efficiency out of the water because the dedupe appliance technology they use requires expensive compute and memory on the cloud platform. HYCU takes a different approach. We make sure the backup process does not impact product services, data that we ship to the backup targets are only unique blocks and there is no need to synthesize backups on the targets.
Cost efficient DR for the Entire Infrastructure: HYCU can efficiently protect applications spread across one zone, multiple zones or multiple regions. In the event of a disaster within a region, HYCU can recover in a complete and separate region. The beauty of HYCU’s approach is that it doesn’t require extra compute or servers while the system is not in a DR mode or a DR test mode. This ability to create a second copy can be leveraged not just for DR, but also for cloning.
Doubling down on Ransomware Protection: Make sure the backup data is not touched by ransomware. We protect all of the customers production data onto air-gapped backup targets. We take care of the isolation for the customer. We also provide another layer of protection by leveraging Google’s bucket level WORM lock functionality. This combined functionality, we protect customers not just against ransomware, but also malicious actors within the organization.
These are just a few of the enhancements we’ve made and why many of our Google Cloud partners, especially those focused on SAP HANA, are equally excited by our latest innovations. These additions have come on top of our support and innovation for solutions for multi-cloud data protection, migration and recovery for on-premises and public cloud platforms.
